HIPAA Regulations
One of Moravian Manor's priorities is protecting
the privacy of residents and staff. In April 2003,
the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability
Act (HIPAA) introduced new national standards
to protect the confidentiality of patients'
medical records and other personal health information.
Developed by the Department of Health and Human
Services (HHS), these new standards provide patients
with access to their medical records and more
control over how their personal health information
is used and disclosed.
In accordance with these standards, Moravian Manor
implemented specific strategies to ensure that
health care and other confidential information
in written, electronic, or spoken form remain
private.
